SRMN: Model Management Partnership - Project News http://gforge.stemnetwork.org/gf/ Gforge Advanced Server RSS User Support: .vmf version of model?Jeff Orasky

Hello,

I was just wondering if there was any news regarding a .vmf version of the model.  In the other help thread, I had mentioned that Vensim said that we could actually run the model on one of their free downloads (model reader, it is about 1 MB to download), but the model needed to be saved as a .vmf instead of the current .mdl format.

Thanks,

Jeff Orasky

Subject: How to use gforce

Hello,

I am the data/assessment coordinator for my small district and I found the US STEM education model stock and flow and frankly, I am confused. I want to input my students' data but I am not sure how. I am also not sure if not including infant data will skew the results. Please let me know!

Thanks,

Gretchen Davies

Hi Gretchen,

Thanks for your e-mail and interest in using the STEM model. I have let our team know about this, and we will need some more information from you in order to address it. I would encourage you to take this discussion over to GForge forums so that it gets wider attention. We can have members of our team there to take it forward with you.

I have created a thread named “Running the US STEM Model with external dataset” in the STEM Model project forums, you can access it here: http://ceti-smmp.cse.ohio-state.edu/gf/project/modelmngmt/forum/?action=ForumBrowse&forum_id=14

Please let me know if you have any problems accessing it.

Thanks,

Hi Jeff,

I will talk this through our team and seek Vensim's help if needed. If it works, a .vmf (or packaged) model version runnable using the Reader/PLE releases will be pushed out immediately. Though I think the problem is that the data stored exogenously is currently used to drive the model; and that's why the PLE and Reader versions fail while simulating  the model. Thanks for pointing to this!

We are in process of figuring a work around for this, so that the users wouldn't need to purchase any modeling software to run our STEM model. We hope to have it in place some time soon.

Thanks,

  Hi Robert,

If you are running Vensim PLE, you are running a version of Vensim that doesn't support importing data from XLS format. And currently, the model uses data stored externally in an xls file.

You will need the Vensim PLE *Plus* version that can run the model with its data files. Here is a quick reference with links: http://ceti-smmp.cse.ohio-state.edu/gf/project/modelmngmt/

Please let us know if that doesn't help or if you still have problems running the model.

Thanks!!

Hi, I called Vensim and they said that we could actually run the model on another one of their free downloads (model reader, it is about 1 MB to download), but the people who created the file would have to save (and make available) a version of the model saved as a .vmf instead of the current .mdl format.

Any chance we could get a .vmf file version?

Thanks,

User Support: Error running US Education ModelRobert Carlton

I have downloaded and installed all the files associated with Vinsim PLE as well as the US Education Model files.

When I click on the Run button, I get a string of error messages, all being:

“The function GET XLS DATA is not supported in this Vensim configuration”

Is there a specific subdirectory where the US Education spreadsheet must reside for it to work, or do I have a version of Vinsim that will not run the data?

Thanks for your help
